Repair or Replace Aortic Valve with TAVI | Eternal Hospital Blog
When any part of the body stops working in normal manner, there is need of proper treatment to make sure that the particular body part do not get affected so much. When some conservative treatment options fail, there is need of surgery. This is true for our heart too. When it is not able to function normally, surgery is needed in dire conditions. Open heart or cardiac surgery is the most common surgery needed for conditions of the heart. Eternal is the best hospital to deal with cardiac surgery in India.
Cardiac surgery is an open heart procedure which is used to treat complications of ischemic heart disease, congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease and also includes heart transplantation. The surgeon opens the chest to access the heart. Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery is the most common surgery to be performed.
When there is something wrong with our aortic valve, then there is need of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). It is also known as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). Our aortic valve is present between the left ventricle and the aorta. It normally has three cusps- left, right and posterior cusp. It opens to allow blood to leave from the left ventricle to the aorta and on to the body. But in case of aortic valve, this does not happen.
Aortic stenosis is the condition in which our aortic valve becomes narrow due to calcium building up on the valve leaflets so they restrict blood flow. It may lead to shortness of breath due to heart failure with buildup of fluid in the lungs. There can also be angina because of insufficient blood reaching the heart muscle and can also be fatal. TAVI is the method to correct this problem. Eternal hospital has highly experienced surgeons to impart TAVI in Jaipur.
In this procedure, you will be administered anesthesia. A catheter with a balloon at its tip is inserted into an artery either in the groin or under the collarbone. The catheter is positioned within the opening of the aortic valve. The balloon is inflated to make room for the new tissue valve which is placed in position. The new valve either expands itself or using the balloon depending on which type of valve is used. The balloon is then deflated and removed along with the catheter. There may be some discomfort after the procedure for which you will be given pain medication.
