About Doctor

Samin K. Sharma, MD, is a renowned interventional cardiology expert well known for performing high-risk complex coronary interventions (more than 1,600+ interventions per year) with an extremely high success rate (greater than 99 percent) while achieving an extremely low complication rate (less than 0.2 percent major complication). Since 1994, he has received the prestigious two-star designation (significantly lower than expected mortality) numerous times by the New York State Department of Health and received the Governor’s Award of Excellence in Medicine in 1996. 

He has served on the New York State’s Cardiac Advisory Board from 2004–2016. Under Dr. Sharma’s leadership, The Mount Sinai Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory has become one of the safest and busiest centers in New York, providing state-of-the-art cardiac and interventional care for all types of simple and complex heart patients. In addition to coronary interventions, Dr. Sharma specializes in the non-surgical treatment of mitral and aortic valve disease, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and MitraClip procedures (TEER).

Dr Sharma has a strong passion for teaching other cardiologists globally, through the annual Complex Coronary Cases (CCC) Symposium since 1998 with 800+ attendees every year and monthly live webcast series, Complex Coronary Cases (www.ccclivecases.org), started in 2009 has now popularized in 170 countries with 25,000+ viewers every month.

He has been dubbed as the “master of Rotablator” being world expert in treating calcified coronary blockages. He is regularly featured on national and local TV (recently on CBS, TV Asia) and in newspapers and magazines including Newsday, Newsweek, the New York Times, the New York Post, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Daily News, the Washington Post, New York Magazine, India Abroad, and India Today. He has personally treated many celebrities including Prime minister of India, President of Pakisthan and the Governor of NY State. He is also a philanthropist, and The Mount Sinai Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is now named the Dr. Samin K. Sharma Family Foundation Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Dr. Samin Sharma along with his wife Manju Sharma (Co-Chaiman) has built a 250-bed hospital, Eternal Heart Care Center (EHCC, Eternal hospital) in his native Jaipur, India. EHCC, an affiliate of Mount Sinai Hospital, NY, has a clear vision to provide affordable & best health care to all native patients irrespective of their financial and social status. EHCC/Eternal hospital, only JCI accredited hospital in the Rajasthan state, has now become the tertiary care center to provide the advance state-of-the art health care in various medical and surgical specialties at the international standard including heart and kidney transplantations.

Work Experience

The career in the United States began with the residency in Internal Medicine at New York Infirmary – Beekman Downtown Hospital (1983-1986), Fellowship in Cardiology at Elmhurst Hospital 1986-88, and training in Interventional Cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital to be finally appointed at the same hospital and is presently holding the post of Director of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory since 1996. He is also the Co-Director of the Zena and Michael A. Weiner Cardiovascular Institute and the Marie-Josee and Henry R. Kravis Centre for Cardiovascular Health.
