Increase in environmental changes and human interference is responsible for many respiratory diseases. With increase in population; vehicles and factories have also increased rapidly causing air pollution. Today, the air quality index is in a very bad state in metropolitan cities that it feels like living in a gas chamber. As a result, infants are born with asthma and many other respiratory diseases. What is Asthma?
Asthma is a respiratory disorder in which air pathways become narrow and produce mucus. This makes breathing difficult and induces severe coughing at times. The person suffers from shortening of breath; but sometimes the condition worsens into an asthmatic attack which might be fatal. These days asthma has become very common especially in children and old age people. 

Symptoms
Asthma symptoms vary from person to person. Old age people show more symptoms than other. Daily activities become such a challenge for them. Excessive coughing with mucus is the biggest problem the face. Other symptoms include: 

  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Wheezing cough
  • Sever coughing
  • Cough followed by mucus vomiting 

Diagnosis

  • FeNO test: It is a machine that measures the level of nitric oxide in the breath to see the amount of inflammation in the lungs.
  • Spirometry: It is a machine that measures how fast a person breathes and the holding capacity of lungs.
  • Peak flow test: It is used to measure how fast one can breathe out.
  • X-ray: in many cases, the doctors prescribe an X-ray test to check the severity of the situation.

Other respiratory problems

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD) : It is a chronic disorder caused by long term expose to toxic elements. Substances such as cigarette, CFCs, methane and other carcinogens are responsible for this disease.
  • Chronic bronchitis: It is a form of COPD brings a long term wet cough.
  • Cystic fibrosis: It is a disorder that causes severe damage to lungs. It affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices. Cystic fibrosis needs constant care and medication. 
  • Emphysema: In this lungs are damaged in such a way that normal breathing.
