Environmental diseases or (ENVDs) are diseases that are caused due to change in environmental conditions. Generally, these diseases are non -communicable. Such diseases are caused by chemicals, radiations, pathogens, pollutants, allergens or calamities. Environmental diseases often take time to build up and require numerous exposures to the causative agent. Toxic elements and chemicals in the environment are majorly the main reason for EMVDs. According to the WHO, about 25% of diseases are triggered by environmental exposures.

Types of environmental diseases:

  • Skin cancer: Skin cancer is caused due to harmful UltraViolet (UV) and Infra Red (IR) rays that enter the earth’s atmosphere. 
  • Disease caused by chemicals and irritants

Animal bite:
There are numerous diseases that are caused due to animal bites; some of them might be even fatal for life. It is very important for the doctor to analyze the bites. Further, to check the signs and symptoms after the bite is also very essential.

Symptoms that occur after an animal bite:

  • Excruciating pain
  • Swelling
  • Redness on the site of the bite.
  • Fever
  • Warmth around the area of bite.

 Diseases caused by Animal bites:

  • Rabies: Rabies is a viral infection which is caused by bite of cats, dogs, rabbits, monkeys etc. Treating such animal bites is extremely important in order to minimize the chances of rabies.
  • Tetanus: Tetanus is a severe bacterial infection that is caused by animal bites. It results in lockjaw, infection, stiff neck, swollen tongue and body spasms.
  • Malaria: Malaria is caused by the bite of female anopheles. It affects millions of people every year. It causes severe fever, and headache.
  • Dengue: Dengue is caused by dengue virus and by the bite of a female Aedes mosquito. It causes fever, headache and body ache. Further, the platelets count in the body becomes very less. 
  • Plague: It is caused by bacteria called yersinia pestis. Plague alone is responsible for serious illness and death across the globe. It is caused by bites from rodents, people in rural areas are mostly affected by it.
  • Hantavirus: It is caused by a bite by a rodent. It is spread by urine, feces and saliva of the infected person.
