Pediatric emergencies are the most common type of emergencies experienced by the doctor. As the kids are extremely vulnerable to infectious or contagious diseases due to their developing immune system and their inability to fight infections. Other than the immune system being referred to as the reason for the pediatric emergencies, the hyperactivity of the children causes various accidents within the home resulting in frequent pediatric emergencies.

Accidents and infections are the two major causes for the pediatric emergencies and often these mild emergencies become complicated by rapid deterioration of the case when they are not treated at the right time or when they are being ignored by the parents in the early hours of the emergency. The doctor’s prime objective when subjected to a pediatric emergency is to try and protect the life of an individual, for that they provide patient airway for sufficient breathing.

The complication is completely age related and disease specific. When treating a child who cannot speak and tell about the difficulty faced, anticipation and intervention become two important methods to understand the special needs of the child. Pediatric emergencies constitute about 30% of the emergencies in the emergency department. Early recognition of the disease is extremely important for swift and aggressive treatment to save the life of the child.

Neonatal Pediatric Emergencies:

  • Trauma due to accident

  • Diabetes: Children suffering from genetic disorders are often victims of diabetes.
  • Accidents: Children are prone to accidents, their hyperactivity and non channelized energy is the sole reason for their injuries.
  • Congenital heart defects: There are various numbers of congenital heart diseases that a child suffers; it is necessary to treat the child immediately after birth.
  • Gastrointestinal problems: A lot of children face gastric related issues; most of them are not serious.
  • Organ transplants: Some kids need an organ transplant due to either a birth defect or due to injury.
