IVUS - It stands for intravascular ultrasound, which is the catheter-based diagnostic modality that helps to generate real-time images of the coronary artery, giving the doctors appreciation based view. The technique helps to assess the degree of narrowing that has been caused by the stenosis by providing very accurate and reliable images. During the procedure is small catheter will be inserted inside the patient's body by making a tiny incision near the groin. A mild sedative will be used so that you do not feel any pain or discomfort. The catheter is guided towards the affected area using precise imaging guidance. An ultrasound probe fitted with a guidewire will be inserted in the catheter and carefully guided towards the concerned area.
