How Dialysis Can Perform Function of the Kidney

Kidney is a pair of organs in the abdomen, towards the back and located on each side of the spine. Each of them is about 4-5 inches long and roughly the size of a large fist. It has an important function of filtering of blood. All the waste in the body is removed by them and it controls the balance of the body’s fluid. Each of them has around millions of nephrons which act as a filter. It is very difficult to diagnose the problems of kidney as when even 10 percent of the kidney is working you may not notice any symptoms. The branch of medicine which deals with the problem of kidneys is known as nephrology. Eternal is one of the best nephrology hospitals In Jaipur.

When the function of kidney becomes very weak, then it is difficult for the body to perform in normal manner. This problem can be solved with the method of dialysis. Dialysis is an artificial machine which acts as a substitute for many functions of the kidney. It is needed when the kidney function of the body is reduced to a critical level.

There are many reason for which dialysis is needed. Some of the reasons are –

Polycystic Disease – It is an inherited disorder in which fluid filled cysts are formed in the kidneys. These cysts are non cancerous but people suffering from this condition have kidney failure by the age of 60.

Glomerulonephritis – It is an inflammation of the tiny filters of the kidney. It has the potential to occur on its own or as a part of another disease. It is caused by bacterial endocarditis. It is caused by high blood pressure and diabetic kidney disease.

This organ can also completely shut down its functioning after a severe illness, heart attack or complicated surgery of any body part.

Kidney dialysis in India is done by two ways – hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. In the former one, two needles are inserted into the arm through the access site and taped into place to remain secure. Each needle is attached to a flexible tube. One tube filters the blood and the second tube returns the blood to the body. In the latter one, a catheter is implanted to the belly. A special fluid is allowed to flow into the abdomen known as dialysate. This dialysate is drained from the abdomen once it draws waste out of the bloodstream.
